If you live in the Bay Area, check out the Food+Wine section in today’s issue of The San Jose Mercury Newspaper and The Contra Costa Times. Jessica Yadegaran have written an article on hot new Austrian wines, featuring Artisan Wine Depot.
Below is a short excerpt from the article, which explains these unique reds and whites from Austria that offer exceptional value and are exquisite for food pairing:
Austrian red wines take center stage – by Jessica Yadegaran, Contra Costa Times
“…Most sommeliers, including owner Christine Tran of Artisan Wine Depot in Mountain View, believe the $15 to $25 price point is rife with values. “What strikes me most is the balance (Austrian winemakers) have been able to achieve with these wines,” Tran says. “They’re more significant now. The finish is longer. They’re really memorable.”
For a great value, Tran suggests the 2009 Hugl Zweigelt Classic, a concentrated, full-bodied wine ideal for grilled fare ($14.99). Zweigelt is the most widely planted red variety in Austria. These days, you can even find it in the crown-capped liters once reserved for gruner veltliner.”
